Police say that their suspect is 28-year-old Richard Tyrone Johnson. Johnson is said to have shot and killed Quennel, who had been calling Johnson all day, asking where his girlfriend was. Reporting witnesses who heard the gunshots and saw the victim on the ground said they feared retaliation.

Johnson turned himself into the police.
