Police responded to a call from Lara's roommate reporting her death. The roommate had found both the 59 year old victim's body as well as that of her estranged husband, Ned Dagle, 62.

The two had been married for five years, but were going through a divorce. They had been separated for four months.

Vondran-Dagle had visited the Prescott police department in December 2009 to make a delayed report of a prior assault perpetrated by her husband.
