Four children; 10-year-old boy, 9-year-old boy, 7-year-old girl and 4-year-old girl, were killed in a house fire started by their mother's 34-year-old ex-boyfriend.

The mother and her current boyfriend were watching television in a second floor bedroom when they smelled smoke.  They jumped from the window to escape flames and were unable to get back in to rescue the children who were asleep in their second-floor bedrooms.

The perpetrator was released from prison two weeks prior to the deaths and had tried to reconcile unsuccessfully with the victim's mother.  He has been charged with homicide and waived his preliminary hearing.
