Debra was killed by her ex-boyfriend, Robert Jones, 56, who walked into the diner she co-owned with a friend and fatally shot her.

Debra had separated from Jones the week of the murder.

Jones went to the diner and shot Debra in front of customers; he then committed suicide by shooting himself with one of the two handguns he brought into the diner.

Carmen died from stab wounds that punctured her liver and also cut her skull and jugular vein. Her husband, Jose Leon-Colon, 41, was charged with first degree intentional homicide. He committed suicide by hanging in November 2009 while awaiting trial.

About three weeks prior to the homicide, Carmen Santos-Padilla had separated from her husband and went to live with her pastor and his family.
