Norma Leticia Villalobos-Guzman, 36

UT, Provo

January 4, 2010

Norma walked into her kitchen covered in blood and asked one of her roommates to call the police. As she sat down on the floor, she complained that her back hurt. Her husband, Roberto Aguirre Ramirez, 27, followed Norma into the room carrying a knife and said, “You and I are going to die today.”

According to a roommate, Ramirez then stabbed himself on the right side of his chest and cut his wrist. A roommate told police he had heard Norma and her husband, Ramirez, arguing inside their bedroom a few minutes before they entered the kitchen.

Both Norma and Ramirez were taken to Utah Valley Medical Center in Provo where Norma underwent open-heart surgery for multiple stab wounds and died later that day. Ramirez survived his alleged suicide attempt and was hospitalized for a few days and later released.

On January 19, 2010, Ramirez appeared in court where he was charged with one count of first-degree degree felony murder, and felony counts of obstructing justice, domestic violence in the presence of a child, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and possession of a controlled substance.

In August Ramirez pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter. He was sentenced to one to fifteen years, and two separate terms of zero to five years for the two separate counts of drug possession, to be served concurrently.
