Priscilla was allegedly killed by her mother's boyfriend, Manual Moniz, 23. Priscialla suffered numerous contusions that resulting in massing bleeding in her brain and other internal organs.
The child’s mother, Alexandra McCarthy-Rodriguez, 22, had been dating Moniz for about fifteen months; relatives described their relationship as volatile.
Moniz told New Bedford and state police investigators that after an argument with McCarthy-Rodriguez regarding a phone message from another man, he threw a heavy toy at the wall that hit Priscilla instead.
The court and autopsy records determined that some of the injuries allegedly occurred two days before the child died and that each injury was itself life threatening if left untreated.
Moniz was charged with murder and held without bail.
