Cody Reetz WI 11-15-2009

Cody Reetz, 14

WI, Germantown, Washington Co.

November 15 , 2009

Cody was strangled to death by his stepfather, Charles Avey, 37, who pled guilty to first-degree intentional homicide and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Cody Reetz was killed when his mother went to the police to report Charles Avey’s attack on her with a hammer, an assault that had occurred the week prior to the homicide.

While Cody was in his van with him, Charles Avey drove past the police department and recognized a vehicle belonging to his in-laws. He then went to a store parking lot where he strangled his stepson with a necktie.

As part of the plea agreement, charges of domestic abuse related strangulation/suffocation and battery with a dangerous weapon filed in connection with the attack on his wife were dismissed, along with five counts of identify theft involving Cody’s father.
