Tetyana's murder has left her 2 Children to grow up without their Mother in their lives

On Friday, January 29, 2010, about 3:00 p.m., Tetyana was leaving Salt Lake Community Action Program Head Start after attending a teacher’s training meeting. Tetyana had reached her vehicle and was talking to her fiancĂ©, Rod Hernandez, on her cell phone. Mary Nance Hanson, 70, suddenly approached her and fired multiple shots at her with a .38-caliber revolver. One of the shots hit Tetyana in the head, fatally wounding her. Hanson then called 911 and reported that she had just shot a woman.

Police confirmed ties between the two women. Hanson was Tetyana’s ex-mother-in-law. Hanson’s son, Dale Jankowski, 45, of Salt Lake City, and Teyana divorced five years previously and were still entangled in a bitter custody battle over their two children. Tetyana stated in one of the divorce documents that Hanson became combative over her grandchildren and allegedly refused to allow Tetyana to see the children. In one instance, as Tetyana was driving away with the children in her car, Hanson pursued her, cutting her off and causing them to crash into another car.

After making the call to police, Hanson was arrested at the crime scene on suspicion of first-degree felony murder and bail was set at one million-dollars. In August Hanson pleaded guilty as charged to first degree felony murder, and in October, was sentenced to fifteen years to life.
