Shirlen was shot by her estranged husband, Vincent Dyson, while in her car near her home, he then shot himself in his car on highway 465 during rush hour because the police were about to apprehend him for killing his estranged wife.

They had been married in September, 2009, and she had filed for a protection order in August, 2010.
