Shannon was strangled with a belt by her boyfriend, Garron Lewis, 46. Her body was discovered after a family friend grew worried about her and her step-daughter and son called the police and asked that they check on her. The police went to the home and found her dead on a basement bed.

Garron Lewis pled guilty to amended charges of second-degree reckless homicide and second degree recklessly endangering safety. He was sentenced to fifteen years prison and ten years extended supervision on the homicide charge and a concurrent sentence of five years prison and five years of supervision on the other count.
