The deadly incident began in the resort casino's parking lot with an argument between a husband and wife. As it escalated, the husband went to his car and grabbed a rifle. His wife and child ran inside the casino complex to avoid him.

A security guard went outside to assess the situation and was shot twice by the husband. Another casino patron was also injured from bullet or glass fragments.

The husband remained outside the casino, brandishing his rifle. When tribal police arrived he ignored their commands to put down the rifle and pointed it at several officers.

He was shot and killed by an officer.
