Katherine was murdered by her husband, Kalen Pohjonen. Katherine was shot by Kalen who then shot and killed himself.

Investigators were called to their home in Vadnais Heights after a colleague of Katherine’s reported she had not shown up for work. Investigators looked in a window and saw the couple unmoving inside.

The Ramsey County medical examiner ruled in a preliminary report that Katherine was shot with a handgun by Kalen. The handgun was found at the scene.
