Ashley was shot and killed by her boyfriend Jose Vidal, 23, of Seekonk, at the Pineapple Inn in North Attleboro. Vidal then turned the gun on himself. He was declared brain-dead at Rhode Island Hospital.

According to media reports, Vidal was wanted on a superior court warrant for failing to make a court appearance in a 2007 rape case in Seekonk.
