Sandra's murder has left her 2 young Daughters to grow up without their Mother in their lives

At about 10:00 a.m., on May 6, 2010, Carlos Augusto Soto-Lopez, 28, called Midvale Police and said he needed “the cops” to come over. When they arrived Soto-Lopez extended his hands for cuffing, admitting he strangled and killed his common-law wife, Sandra, telling police, “I’m tired. I killed her.”

At 8:30 a.m., Soto-Lopez called to report his wife missing. As police arrived to take the report, they found that Sandra had just returned home. After police left, the couple apparently got into a heated argument. When police responded to the home the second time, they found Sandra’s body on the living room couch.

Soto-Lopez admitted covering the body with blankets so the couple’s two daughters, 5 and 8 years old, would not see their mother if they woke up.

Sandra had been strangled with a telephone charger cord wrapped “very tightly” around her neck. She also suffered severe head trauma after apparently being hit so hard with a glass blender pitcher that the heavy glass shattered.

The couple had lived together for eight years and police had responded to the apartment several times for domestic violence disturbances. Soto-Lopez was booked into Salt Lake County Jail and charged with one count of first-degree felony murder and two counts of third-degree felony commission of domestic violence in the presence of a child. The case is set for pretrial conference on January 25, 2010.
